Open Road recently bumped the Jake Gyllenhaal starrer Nightcrawler back a couple weeks to October 31 (assumedly to separate itself from the glut of October releases) as it will soon have its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September, and if you’re anything like me it has quickly risen to the top of your most anticipated list. If it hasn’t, perhaps this new trailer will help things along.
The story centers on Lou Bloom (Gyllenhaal), a driven young man who discovers the nocturnal world of L.A. crime journalism. Joining a group of freelance camera crews who film marketable mayhem, Lou makes his own place at the table, aided by Nina, a veteran of the blood-sport that is local TV news. Blurring the line between observer and perpetrator, Lou finds his calling in a murderous world reduced to transactions. Bill Paxton, Rene Russo and Riz Ahmed co-star with Dan Gilroy directing.
