Josh Boone, whom we all know as the writer/director of the massive hit The Fault in Our Stars, may be adding another big piece of fiction to his upcoming slate. Not only is he attempting to adapt Stephen King‘s “The Stand” at Warner Bros., The Wrap now reports he’s in early talks to write and direct Lestat.
The site reports this won’t be a remake of the 1994 adaptation of “Interview with the Vampire“, which starred Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, but instead it will draw from Anne Rice‘s “The Vampire Lestat” and “The Queen of the Damned“, the latter of which was adapted into a feature film back in 2002.
Universal denies talks with Boone have commenced, which is common, but The Wrap stands by its story.
Personally I like the sound of this as I hoped they wouldn’t start with a remake of Interview and instead take a more chronological look at the character, rather than attempt prequels in the future. I really hope they can get these films done correctly as I think there is a lot of theatrical potential here. Then again, they probably just as easily could have been turned into a television series on HBO and been wildly successful.
