Once it was set for release on February 6, 2015, any expectations most of us may have had for Mortdecai, the new movie starring Johnny Depp and directed by David Koepp, diminished as Lionsgate scoped out an early year dumping ground release. Today the first trailer for the film has arrived to help us in figuring out if it was a date sought due to a lack of competition or if it’s right where it belongs.
Depp stars as Charlie Mortdecai, a man said to be an “art dealer and part time rogue” who’s juggling angry Russians, the British Mi5, his “impossibly leggy wife” (the studio’s words, not mine) and an international terrorist. Charlie must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.
The action-comedy does carry an impressive supporting cast which includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Paul Bettany, Olivia Munn, Oliver Platt, Aubrey Plaza and Jeff Goldblum so give the trailer a watch below and let me know if this one falls in the “Skip” or “See” category.
