Now this is a shocking report, Variety, and several other outlets, is reporting Robin Williams was found dead at his home with the cause of death believed to be suicide via asphyxiation, according to the coroner’s office in Tiburon, California.
Williams’ publicist confirmed the news with Variety saying he had been battling depression of late and had recently entered 12-step rehab stint for drug abuse.
His wife, Susan Schneider said in a statement, “I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin’s family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin’s death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.”
He was probably best known to my generation as Mrs. Doubtfire, the voice of the genie in Aladdin and as Sean Maguire in Good Will Hunting for which he won an Oscar, but his resume is much more than just that including Oscar nominated performances in The Fisher King, Dead Poets Society and Good Morning, Vietnam.
He still has Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb and Merry Friggin’ Christmas set to come out later this year.
