Well this is a little bit of a surprise as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has opened with an estimated $25 million on Friday, putting it well ahead of Guardians of the Galaxy, which is in its second weekend as was expected to take the #1 slot once again. Ninja Turtles brought in $4.6 million of that Friday total from late Thursday night screenings and expectations are for it to finish somewhere north of $60 million.
By comparison, Guardians only brought in $12.3 million and should finish the weekend around $42 million and a 55% drop from last weekend. While it won’t make for a second straight week at #1 it will put its cume at $175+ million in just ten days so I don’t think there is much to complain about there.
New Line’s Into the Storm brought in $6.5 million and likely to end around $17 million or so, The Hundred-Foot Journey brought in $3.7 million and Step Up All In managed $2.8 million.
I will be back tomorrow with a complete look at the weekend.
