During his panel at Comic Con, promoting his upcoming “Django Meets Zorro” comic book crossover, Quentin Tarantino confirmed he will be making The Hateful Eight (see video below) at the beginning of the 2015. I presume we’ll see it hit theaters Christmas 2016 if all goes well, or perhaps late 2016 if the Weinsteins want to take it to Cannes.
However, more interesting was when he was asked whether he would ever make a sci-fi or fantasy film to which he said:
“If you had asked me a few years ago I would have said: ‘Nah, not really, I don’t know.’ But i have a little idea right now. It’s a little flower, you know, like a bean sprout, but those tend to grow into stalks. So this is the first time I’ll be able to say ‘maybe’. It won’t be a spaceship sci-fi, it’ll be Earthbound.”
When asked whether he’d consider an existing franchise he said:
“A series that I would like to put a spin on is the Invasion of the Body Snatchers. I want to take it from the pod people’s perspective, so you’re actually rooting for the pod people. I don’t think they’re so bad.”
As easy as it would be to start spreading rumors Tarantino is developing an Invasion of the Body Snatchers remake, that was simply an answer to a different question altogether. Unless he and the moderator were in cahoots I doubt he’s talking about the same project, though I wouldn’t be surprised for a second if his film had leanings toward Body Snatchers along with any other sci-fi films that have inspired him along the way. That is, after all, his M.O.
Personally, before I see him tackle sci-fi, I want to see him deliver a ’30s style film noir, gangster story… shot on film, of course. But that’s just me. [The Guardian]
