I’ve currently been considering the box office prospects of the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie and took a quick look back at just how awful the 2007 TMNT movie turned out. It was alarming to look back at the pictures and realize how I remembered virtually nothing about that movie and yet it was a movie I covered rather extensively leading up to its release including extended coverage from the 2006 Comic Con.
The 2007 Turtles movie brought in $95.6 million worldwide and while it didn’t have the budget this newest installment clearly has I can’t really tell if this new adaptation of the “Turtles” story is really going to attract that many more eyeballs. After all, the concept is still the same and it’s not as if they’ve changed the target demographic and while the Nickelodeon show does appear to be popular, are the Turtles really all that much more popular now than they were seven years ago?
All that said, today Total Film debuted the following motion posters for the movie featuring Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Donatello doing their thing.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is set to hit theaters on August 8. The film is directed by Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans), produced by Michael Bay and the cast includes Megan Fox, Alan Ritchson, Pete Ploszek, Jeremy Howard, Noel Fisher, Will Arnett, Danny Woodburn, William Fichtner, Whoopi Goldberg and the voices of Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shalhoub.
The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
