Matt Damon has been pretty firm in his stance that he won’t be returning to play Jason Bourne… unless Paul Greengrass directs and they have a good story to tell because he’d love to see what happened to the character after his ten story jump in The Bourne Ultimatum. Perhaps we can add to that, or they come up with a decent story, director Justin Lin manages to convince him and he has a string of box office busts such as Elysium, Promised Land and Monuments Men. The latter scenario is the one Latino Review is offering as reason to say Damon just might be returning for the as-yet Untitled Jason Bourne Sequel.
The fifth chapter in the Bourne series recently saw Andrew Baldwin brought in to write a new draft of the screenplay, shortly after which Universal bumped the release date from August 2015 to July 15, 2016. Could the move been as a result of Damon agreeing to come back? After all, Universal didn’t exactly enjoy massive profits with The Bourne Legacy, which made only $276 million worldwide on a budget of $125 million.
Jeremy Renner has already been announced as returning as Aaron Cross, but as for Damon we’ll just have to wait and see. As of now Damon’s lone big project in his immediate future is Christopher Nolan‘s Interstellar, but the size of his role in that is expected to be quite small.
