Steven Spielberg’s Next Two Films Find Release Dates

We already knew Joel and Ethan Coen were rewriting Steven Spielberg‘s upcoming Untitled Cold War Thriller, which is set to star Tom Hanks, but the film now has an official October 16, 2015 release date.

Matt Charman penned the original draft of the screenplay, which will follow James Donovan (Hanks), the American attorney enlisted by the CIA during the Cold War to surreptitiously negotiate the 1962 release of Francis Gary Powers, the U-2 spy plane pilot who was shot down over Russia two years earlier.

Additionally, Spielberg will direct and adaptation of Roald Dahl‘s The BFG with a screenplay written by Melissa Mathison (E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial). The story centers on the title character, which is a not-so-ordinary bone-crunching giant. He is far too nice and jumbly. It’s lucky for Sophie that he is. Had she been carried off in the middle of the night by the Bloodbottler, or any of the other giants–rather than the BFG–she would have soon become breakfast. When Sophie hears that the giants are flush-bunking off to England to swollomp a few nice little chiddlers, she decides she must stop them once and for all. And the BFG is going to help her!

The BFG is slated for a July 1, 2016 release. Sorry for those of you that were looking forward to Robopocalypse any time soon, seems that film may have been benched entirely. [ERC Box Office]
