So, Fox Searchlight released the following little video as nine Lego artists rebuild the hotel seen in Wes Anderson‘s The Grand Budapest Hotel out of the little plastic building blocks that are now famous, because, you know cultural familiarity.
[amz asin=”B00JAQJNN0″ size=”small”]However, after watching that I was drawn to a second video that featured the making of the actual hotel used in the film, a video I hadn’t seen before and it says how they stumbled on an abandoned department store in Görlitz, Germany in their search for a decadent, abandoned hotel. That department store soon became the massive lobby area for the hotel in the film.
Görlitz has actually been used quite a bit recently including the movie-within-a-movie Stolz der Nation from Quentin Tarantino‘s Inglourious Basterds, The Book Thief and The Reader.
