Over the weekend it was Ant-Man after his name was one of three — along with Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) and Rawson Thurber (We’re the Millers) — directors up for the gig. He quickly squashed that rumor, which left Fleischer and Thurber along with a new hat thrown in the ring, Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies).
At the same time, The Wrap suggested Thurber was the frontrunner for the Ant-Man gig and says Fleischer may have something else in his possible future, Ghostbusters 3, though there aren’t many more details other than that. Certainly the fact Marvel and Disney are considering Fleischer could up his stock in getting the Ghostbusters gig, but it doesn’t sound as if production on that film is imminent as it has taken years to get to this point, though Fleischer may have an “in” with truculent Ghostbusters star Bill Murray given his memorable cameo in Fleischer’s Zombieland.
Either way, I’m not losing any sleep over either of these films, Ant-Man in-particular seems to be a colossal mess at this point and I’m not sure why anyone would want the gig unless they were simply looking for something to do for a few months, allowing the higher ups to pull the strings.
