‘True Detective’ Creator Talks Second Season Moving to California with Three Leads

One of the more interesting television shows as of late was HBO’s “True Detective“, created by Nic Pizzolatto and directed by Cary Fukunaga. The first season centered on a pair of Louisiana State Police officers played by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson and was determined to be a series of its own. The second season will involve all new characters and an all-new case and Pizzolatto recently discussed the second season with To the Best of Our Knowledge (via The Playlist) revealing the second season will move the action to California and will feature three lead characters.

“Right now, we’re working with three leads,” he said. “It takes place in California. Not Los Angeles, but some of the lesser known venues of California and we’re going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambience of the place, much like we did with season one.”

And no, don’t expect Harrelson or McConaughey or any of the characters from the first season back for the second as he adds, “The characters are all new, but I am deeply in love with all of them. We have the entire season broken out, and I have a couple of scripts, and we’ll probably start casting within the coming month.”

As for the tone of the show, don’t expect things to get any more upbeat. “In ‘True Detective’, the world itself is the crime,” he said. “The world itself is poison; there’s something ruinous at work here. The poison at the root of the world is humanity.” Cheers to that am I right?!?!

Meanwhile, the first season of “True Detective” hits DVD and Blu-ray on June 10. I recently received a copy and it includes all the traditional making of features and interviews as well as the inside looks into each episode that were featured following each episode on HBO. But on top of that there are two audio commentaries as well as deleted scenes. You can sign up to preorder a copy right here.
