Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are back working with David Fincher, providing the score for his latest film, Gone Girl on the heels of scoring both The Social Network (for which they won an Oscar) and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. So far we’ve only seen a trailer for the new film (watch below), but Reznor has seen it and in a new interview with EW he says it was much darker than he expected.
“This film has been really fun to work on. It’s been an interesting challenge with some different parameters, and it keeps us on our toes. That’s what makes it good,” he told the magazine. “It’s a much darker film than I was expecting. The book is not exactly uplifting or happy, but it’s a nasty film.”
He’s been working on the film while touring North America with Soundgarden, promoting his latest Nine Inch Nails album “Hesitation Marks” and adds, “I’ve been working on it pretty much all this year on and off during the gaps, and we’ve got a good portion of the composition in good shape… I’ve seen the film a number of times, and we’re deep into the integration part of it. I would hope by the time we leave for Soundgarden that it’s smooth sailing. And if it isn’t, there will be a studio set up in every hotel room until it is.”
Gone Girl releases in theaters on October 3. The film is based upon the global bestseller by Gillian Flynn telling the story of Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) who reports that his wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), has gone missing on their fifth wedding anniversary. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick’s portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behavior have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife?
