Harry Potter Inspired ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Dated for November 2016 and Levine Back with ’50/50′ Stars

Warner Bros has set a November 18, 2016 release date for the return of the world of Harry Potter to the big screen with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a film inspired by Harry Potter’s Hogwarts textbook “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”, which will follow the adventures of the book’s fictitious author, Newt Scamander. Newt’s story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry’s gets underway. A director and cast have not yet been named. [ERC]

Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies) is set to reunite with his 50/50 stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen along with newly announced cast member Anthony Mackie (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) for an untitled holiday movie at Sony. Levine penned the screenplay with a story following three childhood best friends who reunite in New York City for their annual tradition of going on on Christmas Eve. [The Wrap]

Chiwetel Ejiofor and Gwyneth Paltrow are set to star in an American remake of the Oscar-winning film El Secreto de Sus Ojos (The Secret in Their Eyes) for writer/director Billy Ray (The Hunger Games). The tale of revenge centers on former MI-5 agent (Ejiofor) who is obsessed with an unsolved murder. He goes to work for the FBI in Boston, but as he inches closer to solving the crime, he uncovers a shocking truth that will shed a terrifying new light on past events. IM Global is producing the film, which was previously set up at Warner Bros. [THR]
