I’ve already mentioned how excited I am to see Ben Affleck‘s Live by Night, based on the Dennis Lehane novel and now it seems I’ll have to wait a little longer. With recent confirmation Warner Bros. will be following Batman vs. Superman with a Justice League movie Afflecks’ schedule playing Batman just filled up a little so Warner Bros. shifted the film from a December 2015 date to October 7, 2016. No worries, I’ll just shift my excitement ten months later.
Warner Bros. has also dated Jeff Nichols‘ (Mud, Take Shelter) first studio feature, Midnight Special, targeting a November 25, 2015 release. The film stars Michael Shannon, Joel Edgerton, Kirsten Dunst and Adam Driver and follows a father and his eight-year-old boy who must go on the run when it becomes apparent the child has superhero-like powers.
In other release date news, TriStar pictures has dated Ricki and the Flash for June 26, 2015. Directed by Jonathan Demme and starring Meryl Streep, the new film centers on a woman (Streep) who abandoned her family when she was younger to find fame and fortune as a rock star in California. Decades later, she returns home to be a mother again after her daughter goes through a divorce.
TriStar has also dated Robert Zemeckis‘ To Reach the Clouds, a film centered on French high-wire artist Philippe Petit (to be played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt), the central figure in James Marsh‘s documentary Man on Wire. The movie will hit theaters on October 2, 2015. James Badge Dale and Ben Kingsley co-star.
Warner Bros. is also planning deep into the future, setting release dates for two untitled animated features, one for February 10, 2017 and another for February 9, 2018. If you’re thinking one of those is The Lego Movie 2, guess again, that’s hitting theaters on May 26, 2017.
And finally, Warner Bros. has also set a release date for Geostorm to be directed by Dean Devlin and starring Gerard Butler as a stubborn but charming satellite designer who, when the world’s climate-controlling satellites malfunction, has to work together with his estranged brother to save the world from a man-made storm of epic proportions. A trip into space follows, while on Earth a plot to assassinate the president begins to unfold. The film will hit theaters on March 25, 2016.
