What I Watched, What You Watched #242

It was a very busy week for me as I saw three movies in theaters and watched another five at home. As for the theatrical trips, they included two I’ve already reviewed — The Other Woman (read the review here) and Brick Mansions (read the review here) — and Jon Favreau‘s Chef (5/9), which I already wrote a little about, but I’ll say it again here, I enjoyed it… review coming in a couple weeks.

At home I watched a screener for Last Passenger (review here) and I also watched Blue Ruin On Demand and I’ll have a review of that this coming week, but I did post this on Twitter:

Then, last week I mentioned how I was digging into Werner Herzog‘s catalog courtesy of Fandor.com as they are releasing 16 of Herzog’s titles, one a week, in advance of Shout Factory’s release of Herzog: The Collection [Limited Edition] on July 29. Last week I watched Aguirre, The Wrath of God and this week it was the fantastic Fitzcarraldo and My Best Fiend, the latter being Herzog’s documentary focused on the mad genius star of Fitzcarraldo and Aguirre as well as Herzog’s Nosferatu the Vampyre, Cobra Verde and WoyzeckKlaus Kinski. All five films are available in the set and will be available on Fandor over the coming weeks.

[amz asin=”B003JBHVYU” size=”small”]I’m going to be reviewing all 16 of Herzog’s films individually leading up to the release and I’m currently speeding through his book titled “Conquest of the Useless: Reflections from the Making of Fitzcarraldo“, which contains direct (and sometimes condensed) entries from over 1,000 pages of Herzog’s diary from the making of Fitzcarraldo, and I want to finish it before writing on these first three movies for added perspective.

And, finally, I watched Don Siegel‘s Riot on Cell Block 11, which was released on Criterion Blu-ray this past week and I’ll have a review of that for you soon as well.

With that, I’m done… Other than watching some Stanley Cup Playoffs, “Hell’s Kitchen” and “Game of Thrones” on TV, I have nothing left to offer, but let’s hear from you… what did you watch?
