The Weinstein Co. has released a new 60-second trailer for The Giver and I also have for you a featurette for the young adult adaptation that was released last week.
The fact it’s a young adult adaptation definitely causes me to raise an eyebrow, wondering just what kind of attempt at a movie we’re going to get, but the director being Philip Noyce and with a cast that includes Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep is definitely worthy of notice.
The film is an adaptation of Lois Lowry‘s 1994 Newbery Medal winning novel and centers on Jonas (Brenton Thwaites), who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community. Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd, Taylor Swift (ugh) and Katie Holmes co-star. The film is set for a August 15.
