First ‘God’s Pocket’ Trailer, Starring Philip Seymour Hoffman

At the end of last week we got the first trailer for A Most Wanted Man (watch here), one of Philip Seymour Hoffman‘s final performances. This morning I posted an audio commentary featuring director Paul Thomas Anderson remembering the first time he saw Hoffman in Scent of a Woman and now IFC has released the first trailer for God’s Pocket, a film directed by John Slattery (“Mad Men”) that, like A Most Wanted Man, played Sundance. And, also like A Most Wanted Man, seemed to receive mostly muted praise.

Described as a dark comedy, the film finds Hoffman playing Mickey, whose crazy stepson Leon (Caleb Landry Jones) is killed in a construction “accident,” and nobody in the working class neighborhood of God’s Pocket is sorry he’s gone. Mickey tries to bury the bad news with the body, but when the boy’s mother (Christina Hendricks) demands the truth, Mickey finds himself stuck in a life-and-death struggle between a body he can’t bury, a wife he can’t please and a debt he can’t pay. John Turturro, Eddie Marsan and Richard Jenkins co-star.

IFC is set to release the film on May 9, check out the trailer below.
