This week I actually ended up watching quite a bit, on the plane home from Puerto Rico I noticed Ender’s Game, Delivery Man and Last Vegas were the in-flight options, but I opted to watched No Country for Old Men and Rise of the Planet of the Apes on my iPad. I don’t know the last time I watched No Country, but it was a lot of fun to return to and I decided on Rise of the Apes just to make sure I was prepared for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes come this July.
Then, when I got home I went and saw Noah (read my review here) and the next night saw Captain America: The Winter Soldier (read my review here) and then after that, at home, I watched 47 Ronin (read that review here).
On top of that, I’m currently about an hour into the original The 47 Ronin on Hulu and I don’t think I need to tell you it’s much better, but it’s also much different, obviously, considering the Keanu Reeves character doesn’t exist in the original story. Instead, the film is focused far more on the politics of the story after a Lord, in a fit of fury, decides to settle a personal grudge and raises his sword against his enemy. It’s a costly decision and one that’s deemed unprovoked and the Lord must commit seppuku as a result of his actions. The Lord’s retainers must then decide how to proceed in the best manner in terms of serving the house and wondering if they should exact revenge. There are no witches, monsters or half-white, half-Japanese characters to speak of and I’m excited to watch the rest.
Next week I have screenings of Oculus and Heaven is for Real, the latter of which I’m not sure I feel I can endure and the former I will definitely be going to see, but it is screening at the same time as the National Championship game.
