Jason Sudeikis in Talks to Star in ‘Fletch Won’

For the longest time it was thought Kevin Smith (Clerks) was going to direct a what was then considered a prequel to Chevy Chase‘s 1985 comedy Fletch. Then it fell to “Scrubs” creator Bill Lawrence and star Zach Braff. Neither scenario came to fruition.

Now THR reports Jason Sudeikis will take over for Chase in Fletch Won, which is being considered as the first film in a planned comedy franchise at Warner Bros.

With a screenplay from first time writer David List apparently passing muster and described as a gritty action comedy with heart and more tonally in line with Gregory McDonald‘s mystery novels featuring investigative reporter I. M. Fletcher. The THR report says the film is hoping to exude a Beverly Hills Cop or Midnight Run vibe.

Next step is find a director and I’d be shocked if Todd Phillips‘ name wasn’t rumored at least once before this project began principal photography.
