Scorsese Talks Quaaludes and DiCaprio Inspired by Drunkest Guy in the World

If the Oscar for Best Actor was determined by the most talked about performance from each year then I think the case for handing the statue to Leonardo DiCaprio for his work in The Wolf of Wall Street would be a pretty easy one to make as it is a performance that continues to draw attention.

Recently the folks over at the Conan O’Brien Show sent over some clips featuring Wolf director Martin Scorsese discussing the scene and how he hired an on-set expert, though he could have just “put a few words in” himself based on his own 1970s experience.

[amz asin=”B00H9KKKAY” size=”small”]DiCaprio, however, found additional inspiration as he noted at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, telling the crowd a YouTube video he referred to as “The Drunkest [Guy] in the World” was a “huge inspiration”

“It’s not just the fact that he was sort of elasticated and trying to get [up], it was his motivation that was really intriguing,” he said. “He had one singular goal, one that was to get a beer out of the 7-Eleven, and it took him a half an hour.”

I’ve included Scorsese’s “Conan” piece below, the video DiCaprio was referring to as well as the scene itself. Take a moment and enjoy.

NOTE: Around the 1:20 mark on the drunk guy video is where you can really see the inspiration.
