Box Office Predictions: ‘Jack Ryan’, ‘Ride Along’, ‘Devil’s Due’ and ‘Nut Job’ Battle Oscar Nominees

I’m a little pressed for time this morning so today’s write-up will be a little abbreviated, so let’s quickly take a look at the weekend’s new releases. Ride Along starring Kevin Hart and Ice Cube is my pick at number one as I’m going with a flat $20 million for the three-day weekend, with First Sunday as my comparison.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit isn’t very good, but it’s being advertised everywhere and I know more than one person that told me they wanted to see it. $18 million is my number, though I could end up being high.

The Nut Job is one of the worst animated films in ages, truly awful, but that won’t keep everyone away. I’m giving it $9.6 million based on being a family film alone, those poor kids.

Lastly, the unscreened horror, Devil’s Due. This is the time of year for horror to scoop up, but Devil’s Due is barely on anyone’s radar, and so cracking the top ten is probably all it can hope for at $8.1 million.

Your turn, put down those nomination lists for a few minutes and give some thought to the unloved releases of January 2014!

Current Record: 1-7 against the wisdom of the crowds
