Box Office Actuals: Leaderboard Updated as ‘Thor: The Dark World’ and ‘Best Man Holiday’ Top the Box Office

And just like that, we have a tie atop the points leaderboard as Baca has been steadily closing the gap on Athar and this weekend has moved into a tie. Baca scored six points this weekend and it would have been more had Thor: The Dark World not dropped even more than originally estimated. Neither or the point leaders, however, find themselves in the top ten of the accuracy chart where the likes of Jack Tyler is the only one to find himself on both.

The estimates on Thor 2 had it bringing in $38.4 million but once the actuals were tallied it ended up being nearly $2 million less, dropping 57.3% from opening weekend to $26.5 million. This isn’t exactly a surprise for a superhero film, though considering the competition was rather relaxed it seemed an opportunity to perform a little better was there.

Remaining in second is The Best Man Holiday with $30.1 million, the eighth best opening of the year for an R-rated film and a surefire signal there will be another one soon enough.

Lastly, Kill Your Darlings hardly made a dent in 71 theaters, bringing in only $119,121, though it’s hardly a film you’d expect to make much of a killing at the box office.
