No major differences in box office predictions between Laremy and the readers this week until you get to The Book Thief, which is playing in only four theaters and where Laremy predicted $60,000 for the weekend the readership went with a whopping $780,000, which would be $195,000 per theater, which would make it one of the top ten openings of all-time. We’ll see.
At the top the difference was $4.4 million as the readers predict Thor: The Dark World to do a little better than tracking at $88 million, which would be a $23 million bump for the sequel and second film since The Avengers stormed the box office. One thing I think this proves is that as entertaining as the Avenger movies may be, they are largely an Iron Man franchise. Though a few readers have it going over $100 million with Rumano’s $107.8 million prediction the highest on the board.
Next is 12 Years a Slave, which is adding 734 theaters for a total of 1,144 nationwide and only $100,000 separates Laremy and the readers’ $8 million aggregate.
Finally, About Time is expanding to 1,200 theaters and the reader are predicting a $4.3 million finish, $300,000 more than Laremy predicted.
I’ve included Laremy’s predictions and the average reader predictions directly below and I’ll be back on Sunday with box office estimates. To see Laremy’s full list of predictions and all 90 reader predictions for this weekend click here.
