New ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ Clips and Poster

Focus Features has just released a pair of clips and a brand new poster for their upcoming drama Dallas Buyers Club starring Matthew McConaughey as real-life Texas cowboy Ron Woodroof, whose free-wheeling life was overturned in 1985 when he was diagnosed as HIV-positive and given 30 days to live.

I caught the film in Toronto and really enjoyed it. Along with McConaughey, Jared Leto also turns in a fantastic performance as Rayon and both are highly deserving of Oscar nominations, if not wins. Here’s a snippet from my review:

The theme of the story comes through in [director Jean-Marc Vallée’s] filmmaking as he smartly focuses his attention on the characters and not the disease. So often filmmakers get caught up in the gory details of war, politics, disease, etc. that they forget it’s the characters people are coming to see and where the connection must be made. Without that connection all you are doing is selling fear over compassion and while it’s much easier and obvious choice to sell fear based on our natural instincts, to sell and develop compassion over fear is the mark of a true storyteller, and Dallas Buyers Club serves as the evidence.

Dallas Buyers Club is slated for a limited release on November 1. You can check out the two clips and the new poster directly below.
