I’ve only read a couple of Tom Clancy‘s novels, largely because of the immense detail he writes with and not being able to find large enough amounts of time to dedicate to his stories wholly. That said, I’ve loved his work since I was quite young and it’s sad to hear of his passing at the age of 66.
Clancy’s novels spawned feature film adaptations such as The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger and The Sum of All Fears, all introducing one of his most popular characters, Jack Ryan, who will be seen again in the coming months in a brand new feature titled Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit featuring Chris Pine in the lead role. Previous actors to play the character include Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck. Clancy’s John Clark character has yet to receive as much feature film attention despite popping up twice already, played by Liev Schrieber and Willem Dafoe.
Clancy’s novels made for difficult adaptations seeing how detailed they were and how expansive they were, trotting the globe with ease across thousands of pages, but difficult to recreate across hundreds of screenplay pages. Beyond books and films his work become incredibly popular in the video game realm and with his final book and latest Jack Ryan adventure, “[amazon asin=”B00EOARZ4G” text=”Command Authority”]”, hitting shelves on December 3 and plenty of work to pull from, his name won’t soon be forgotten.
