Rogen and Goldberg’s Animated ‘Sausage Party’ To Take an R-Rated Stab at Pixar

I didn’t report on the upcoming R-rated animated feature Sausage Party, which was announced recently as having been created by This is the End boys Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Jonah Hill and subsequently written by Rogen and Goldberg with Kyle Hunter and Ariel Shaffir and based on the synopsis and some new comments it sounds like we should be thinking Toy Story only with food instead of toys and R-rated instead of G-rated.

The synopsis describes it as a raunchy animated movie about one sausage’s quest to discover the truth about his existence. After falling out of a shopping cart, our hero sausage and his new friends embark on a perilous journey through the supermarket to get back to their aisles before the 4th of July sale.

Funny enough, but Goldberg adds to that telling MovieWeb, “Sausage Party is an existential mock-Pixar movie that we are about to make, and we are very, very proud of it. Its our opus. Its like Mr. Holland’s Opus! It’s our take on a Pixar movie. It is very, very R rated.”

As for the perception he may want to take down Pixar, Goldberg adds, “I wish there were fifty Pixar movies every year. But listen, someone should take those motherfuckers down a notch. Those high and mighty bastards. We’re mocking all animated movies, with a special eye on Pixar.”

Conrad Vernon (Shrek 2, Monsters vs. Aliens, Madagascar 3) and Greg Tiernan (“Thomas & Friends”) are directing for Sony Pictures with Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures and Point Grey Pictures producing, the latter of which brought the picture to Sony, convincing the studio to co-finance the project. A 2015 release is being eyed.

NOTE: Picture has nothing to do with the movie and I can’t find the source.
