Kurt Russell Joins Cast of ‘Fast and Furious 7’

The cast of Fast and Furious 7 has just gained an impressive little throwback addition as Kurt Russell will play an undisclosed role according to Variety, which reports the role, while unknown, is the same role previously offered to Denzel Washington. Whether it’s a role as a villain or hero is unclear, but then again are any of the characters in this franchise so easily defined?

At the end of Fast and Furious 6 we got the impression Jason Statham will be the film’s lead antagonist as he sets out to avenge the death of his brother (Luke Evans).

I’m trying to remember if they’ve ever said what happened to the parents of Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. Is there any chance Russell will play the father to one of them? Is there any chance he’ll wear an eyepatch? So many questions. Either way, with James Spader joining The Avengers: Age of Ultron yesterday and now Russell joining the Fast franchise it’s been an interesting day in blockbuster casting to say the least.

James Wan (The Conjuring) is directing the film from a script by Chris Morgan with the likes of Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson and other returning. Production is just about to get underway as the action moves from overseas back to the U.S. with the bulk of the shoot taking place in Los Angeles.

Fast and Furious 7 is set for a July 11, 2014 release.
