Space Farmers! Rumored ‘Interstellar’ Plot is Ben Affleck is Batman Times 2356

I’m not sure how valid this news is, but I just couldn’t help but smile at the idea of fanboys getting all riled up after reading a suspect synopsis for Christopher Nolan‘s Interstellar in the same way several of them flew off the handle when it was announced Ben Affleck had been cast as Batman in Zack Snyder‘s Batman vs. Superman.

The news comes from the Alberta-based newspaper the Fort Macleod Gazette where Interstellar is shooting and they have a plot synopsis for the film that’s a little different from the officially released version. Have a look:

Set in the future, the movie details the toll climate change has taken on agriculture, with corn the last crop to be cultivated. The scientists embark on a journey through a worm hole into other dimensions in search of somewhere other crops can be grown.

Now compare that to the official synopsis:

Interstellar chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.

The official version is quite vague and may lead some to suspect it could just be an experiment and not necessarily a trip taken to find new crops.

The script, which has been updated since Jonathan Nolan wrote it for Steven Spielberg a few years back, is based on scientific theories developed by a Kip Thorne, a theoretical physicist, a gravitational physicist and astrophysicist at Caltech. Like Inception, the story is said to be “complex and multi-layered”. Maybe they mean, “vertical multi-level farming”?

The film stars Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, Casey Affleck, Ellen Burstyn, John Lithgow, Topher Grace, Wes Bentley and, just recently, Matt Damon who may, or may not be, playing Mark Whitacre.

Interstellar hits theaters on November 7, 2014. [via The Playlist]
