New Pictures of Nicolas Cage in David Gordon Green’s ‘Joe’

David Gordon Green‘s Joe was once thought to be a film that may show up at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. Now it’s set to premiere in Venice followed by a North American premiere at the Toronto Film Festival and based on what some people are telling me it’s one I shouldn’t miss as it’s being said it’s a film that redefines how we currently perceive Nicolas Cage as an actor.

The film is based on the Larry Brown novel and described as a gripping mix of friendship, violence and redemption taking place in the contemporary backwoods South. Cage plays the title role as the hard-living, hot-tempered ex-con Joe Ransom, who is just trying to dodge his own instinct for trouble until he meets a hard-luck kid (Tye Sheridan) who awakens in him a fierce and tender-hearted protector.

Sheridan you all know from Terrence Malick’s Tree of Life and Mud earlier this year. As of now the film doesn’t have a domestic distributor, but should its Toronto and Venice bows live up to the building buzz this may be one that gets picked up quick.
