Your Box Office Predictions for ‘Elysium’, ‘Planes’, ‘Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters’ and ‘We’re the Millers’

The averages are in and it looks like the readers have gone under all of Laremy’s box office predictions for this weekend, though the order remains the same.

First off, the readers, on average, predicted $6.1 million less for Neill Blomkamp‘s Elysium, looking for a number much closer to District 9‘s $37 million from 2009.

Reviews for Elysium aren’t nearly as ecstatic as they were for District 9, the latter earning a 90% RottenTomatoes rating to Elysium‘s 66%, but the Matt Damon starrer has been advertised very well. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.

In second is Disney’s Planes, which is carrying a 25% RottenTomatoes rating and I just wonder how this one is not only going to shake out this weekend, but how it will play overall. Audiences are sure to think this is another Pixar film, but they’ll quickly notice the quality isn’t nearly up to par with even the worst Pixar has had to offer. The success of this movie may be a bit of a big deal in the grand scheme of things as Disney already has a sequel waiting in the wings.

Reviews for We’re the Millers weren’t much better at 41%, but it remains a rather passable R-rated comedy, though it’s one I’m sure most will find on HBO rather than see in the theater. The readers went $1.3 million lower than Laremy on this one and it really could go either way. I’m personally wondering if there is any chance it could outgross Planes this weekend.

Finally, while the RottenTomatoes rating is ever-so-slightly higher than Planes, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters is undoubtedly the worst film on the board and even the reader’s $17.5 million may be too high for this one as it already expended $5.4 million worth of its audience on Wednesday, can there really be that many people left that are interested in seeing it this weekend? If you’re open to my recommendation… Stay away!
