Steven Spielberg Drops Out of Directing ‘American Sniper’

Steven Spielberg just can’t seem to make up his mind. The filmmaker previously left Robopocalypse dangling in the wind and has now dropped out of directing American Sniper based on the autobiography of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle. Bradley Cooper is set to produce and star as the Texas native came to record the highest number of sniper kills for an American and Warner Bros. (Dreamworks has also pulled out entirely) is still moving forward, but they’re going to need someone to helm the ship.

Spielberg has done this in the past, most recently the Harvey remake, which he dropped out of to helm War Horse. He always has a crop of films on his plate and who knows, maybe he’ll now circle back to Robopocalypse, but for the time being he’s currently without a project to direct, which I don’t expect to be a scenario that will last too long.
