It has long been assumed, but Christopher McQuarrie has now officially signed on to direct Mission: Impossible 5 tweeting the message, “Mission: Accepted” earlier today.
Shortly thereafter Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions made the announcement official quoting Tom Cruise saying, “I am thrilled to reunite with Chris for the latest installment in the Mission series. I began producing the films with the goal that a different director with his own vision would make each one. Chris is an extraordinary filmmaker who will deliver the heart-pounding action and thrills that audiences around the world have come to expect from the Mission: Impossible franchise.”
Mission: Impossible 5 is another one of 2015’s anticipated releases and will mark the fifth time Cruise has played IMF agent Ethan Hunt. Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) wrote the screenplay.
McQuarrie last directed Cruise in Jack Reacher and wrote the upcoming Cruise sci-fi feature Edge of Tomorrow being directed by Doug Liman. Prior to that he wrote Valkyrie, which Brian Singer directed and he went uncredited as a contributor to the resuscitation of World War Z.
