Coogler and Jordan Reteam for ‘Rocky’ Spin-off, ‘Creed’

I really don’t know what to make of the news MGM has made deals with Fruitvale Station writer/director Ryan Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan to create a Rocky spin-off titled Creed, in which Jordan will star as the grandson of Apollo Creed, the boxer played by Carl Weathers in the original boxing franchise, in a continuation of the Rocky saga. In addition to this, Sylvester Stallone will reprise his role as Rocky Balboa where he’ll play a trainer.

Coogler is writing the screenplay with Aaron Covington and apparently Coogler was the driving force behind the project. The project was brought to Stallone’s attention, he loved it, and here we are, the seventh film in the franchise that began in 1976 and won three Oscars for Best Picture, Director and Film Editing will continue.

Right now I’m speculating we probably won’t see this until 2015 and as hesitant as I would normally be about a project of this sort, if Coogler is able to bring the heart to this film that he brought to Fruitvale count me in. [Deadline]
