Box Office Results: Leaderboards Updated as ‘The Conjuring’ Tops All Contenders

The official box office results are in and The Conjuring boosted its total an extra $300,000, coming in at $41.8 million for the weekend, a massive result for an entirely new property and with an “A-” CinemaScore this one could have legs for a long, long time.

In the animated realm of Turbo, the film fared a little worse than originally estimated as it brought in a meager $21.3 million for the three-day and only $31 million for its first five days in theaters. Budgeted at $135 million that’s not exactly what Fox and Dreamworks were hoping for as it fell behind Despicable Me 2, which is in its third week in release and still managed to bring in $3.6 million more than Turbo this weekend.

As for Red 2, it dropped $500,000 from its estimated number to an even $18 million.

Finally, Universal’s R.I.P.D. dipped only slightly from estimates, bringing in $100,000 less than estimated for a weekend actual of $12.6 million result. The film is the second disappointment of the weekend starring Ryan Reynolds, which will surely have his agent scrambling.

Other than that, today is the big day where we now have two leaderboards in play to track your box office prediction accomplishments.

First we have the points leaderboard, which we’ve been tracking since day one, but today also marks the opening of the percent accuracy leaderboard where just how accurate your predictions are will be tracked. The only requirement for the accuracy leaderboard is that you must have predicted at least five weekends so far, so for those of you that have been participating from the start you can check and see if you are among the Top 50, for those that came to us a little late, once you’ve participated for five weeks you too could see your name up in lights.

I’ve listed the current top ten for both leaderboards directly below, but you can see the full list of rankings right here and for the complete box office top ten and points awarded for this weekend specifically click here.
