Mini-Review:
The twelfth season of “The Simpsons” took place back in 2000 to 2001. While this season wasn’t as much fun as some of the previous seasons, it did have its highlights. Being a comic geek myself, I enjoyed the episode “Worst Episode Ever” which featured the Comic Book Guy. I loved the in-jokes about comic shops and the occasionally sarcastic, egocentric staff manning them. In fact, this entire DVD set focuses on the Comic Book guy as the menus and interior art all feature a comic convention. I actually found myself watching the menus as each disc had custom animation showing characters signing autographs at a comics convention or entering a costume contest. The DVD set also comes with a highly detailed booklet summarizing every episode, guest voice, and bonus feature. Guests this season include Gary Coleman, The Who, Drew Barrymore, Stephen King, Joe Mantegna, Jay Mohr, Joshua Jackson, Leeza Gibbons, Edward Norton, Michael Keaton, Tom Savini, N’Sync, Serena and Venus Williams, and many more.
Among the bonus features are audio commentaries, deleted scenes, galleries, highlights clips, commercials, and more. The featurette “The Global Fanfest” shows a rainy gathering where Simpsons fans got to hear an orchestra play music from the show, Simpsons trivia with the writers, and the voice cast on stage. It looked like miserable weather but a lot of fun.
