UPDATE: Universal has issued the following statement confirming Jurassic Park IV has been put on an indefinite hold and will no longer be hitting theaters June 2014:
In coordination with filmmakers, Universal has decided to release Jurassic Park 4 at a later date giving the studio and filmmakers adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth installment in Universal’s beloved franchise. We could not be more excited about the vision that Colin Trevorrow has created for this film, and we look forward to watching as he and the producers create another great chapter in this franchise’s storied history.
The original post follows…
Ain’t It Cool News spotted the following two tweets from Jurassic Park IV Digital Asset Manager Todd Smoyer and Concept Artist Dean Sherriff coming out and saying the fourth installment in the dino-franchise has been put on hold. Both tweets have since been deleted, though a few of Smoyer’s responses to fans remain including one saying, “Oh it’s still gonna happen and when it does it’s gonna be EPIC!” which essentially sounds like someone from the studio got to him, especially considering dream crushing was the focus of his original tweet.
Filming was expected to begin soon on the film under the direction of Safety Not Guaranteed helmer Colin Trevorrow who only recently tweeted the picture you see at the top of this post with one word: “Nublar”.
Jurassic Park 4 was targeting a June 13, 2014 release and I can only imagine news will surface soon as to what exactly is going on with the production, but it isn’t as if this comes as a major surprise as not a single cast member had been announced yet.
