It seemed a confirmed with pre-production starting today on the Boston-set Prohibition Era story.
Affleck adapted the novel for the screen, is directing and will star as Joe Coughlin, the son of a police captain who rebels against his father and becomes a career criminal, eventually joining a mobster. He rises up the ranks as the action moves to Tampa, Fla., then Cuba and features rumrunners, femme fatales, betrayals and good men committing plenty of sin.
Affleck, of course, made his directorial debut with the adaptation of Lehane’s Gone Baby Gone in 2007 starring his brother Casey Affleck and Michelle Monaghan, not to mention earned Amy Ryan a Best Supporting Actress nomination.
