Because what would the world be without a new adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, today we have the first trailer for the most recent starring Douglas Booth and Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) as they take on the iconic roles as William Shakespeare’s “star-crossed lovers” lovers whose love is denied due to the feud between their two families, the Montagues and Capulets.
I expect this trailer was cut in anticipation of the Cannes marketplace where the film will likely screen in search of distribution.
Along with Booth and Steinfeld, the film co-stars Damian Lewis (“Homeland”), Paul Giamatti, Holly Hunter, Ed Westwick, Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd, Natascha McElhone, Lesley Manville and Kodi Smit-McPhee and is directed by Carlo Carlei with a screenplay from Julian Fellowes (“Downton Abbey”, Gosford Park).
Steinfeld is obviously the Oscar-nominated actress from Joel and Ethan Coen’s True Grit, but Booth is a relatively new face that won’t be “new” for long as he is set to star in Darren Aronofsky‘s Noah as well as Lana and Andy Wachowski‘s Jupiter Ascending next year.
Check out the trailer below and let me know if yet another adaptation was worth it.
