We’ll tackle that headline in order beginning with the Interstellar news. While in New Orleans, filming the upcoming HBO crime series “True Detective” with Woody Harrelson for Sin Nombre director Cary Fukunaga, Matthew McConaughey was asked about being offered a role in Christopher Nolan‘s Interstellar. Without so much as a clue to his character he said, “I’m confirming,” and left it at that.
All we know about the character is his name is Cooper and all we know about Interstellar is that it involves time travel and alternate dimensions in a story that sees a group of explorers travel through a wormhole. The script was written by Nolan’s brother, Jonathan Nolan, and is based on scientific theories developed by a Kip Thorne, a theoretical physicist, a gravitational physicist and astrophysicist at Caltech. Like Nolan’s Inception, the story is said to be “complex and multi-layered”.
I’m not sure a filming date has been announced, but the film itself is set for a November 7, 2014 release.
Coming out a little sooner is Jeff Nichols‘ Mud, which finds McConaughey playing the title character, a man hiding out on an island in the Mississippi, who comes across two boys, Ellis (Tye Sheridan) and his friend Neckbone (Jacob Lofland) who help him on his path to the one he loves (Reese Witherspoon).
Mud premiered at Cannes last year, but unfortunately I left town before it screened so I have yet to see it, but am looking forward to getting my chance as it is set to hit theaters on April 26.
