“When you got tension as men, that’s tough till July.”

Back in February, Shia LaBeouf departed the Broadway production of “Orphans” due to “creative differences” with co-star Alec Baldwin. As a result of the situation, LaBeouf wrote an apology email to the show’s director, Daniel Sullivan, which was then revealed to have been lifted from a 2009 Esquire article.

Well, last night on “The Late Show with David Letterman” (via Film Drunk), David Letterman flat-out asked LaBeouf, “Why did you get fired?” To which Shia comically responded, “Because me and Alec had tension as men. Not as artists, but as men. In a room, I think that became a hard thing to deal with. When you got tension as men, that’s tough till July. You know, it’s cool for increments, but I think to do that for a long period of time… is pretty tough.”

You can hear the audience laughing in the background and I’m actually not sure if they think LaBeouf is joking or actually posturing, but the whole thing is quite funny. However, I do maintain a certain level of respect for LaBeouf who, even here, doesn’t pass the buck and answers the question even if he comes off a little more guarded than he has in the past.
