Nicolas Winding Refn‘s Only God Forgives is certainly one of the year’s most anticipated movies and one many expect, myself included, will be included at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and the fact new images from the film are finding their way online today may suggest that. Then again, perhaps it’s because the film is hitting French theaters in May and these pictures come from a French source in Allocine. Either way, it’s clearly just around the corner.
The new pics feature Ryan Gosling as Julian, a former kickboxer and gangster living in Bangkok. When his brother is murdered by a ruthless Thai police lieutenant, Julian is forced to seek vengeance or risk his own death.
The one doing the “forcing” is Julian’s mother played by Kristen Scott-Thomas as seen in the first image below. Scott-Thomas plays Jenna , the head of a powerful criminal organization, and after arriving in Bangkok to collect her son’s body, she dispatches Julian to find his killers, most notably Chang, the Angel of Vengeance, as seen in the final image played by Vithaya Pansringarm.
