We debated yesterday whether David O. Russell‘s upcoming Untitled David O. Russell/Abscam Project would hit theaters this year or not as I considered my first batch of Best Picture predictions for the 2014 Oscars. Well, wonder no more, Sony has set a limited December 13 release date for the pic, followed by a nationwide, Christmas Day roll-out.
The film reunites Silver Linings Playbook stars Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper with their director and also brings in Russell’s The Fighter stars Christian Bale and Amy Adams along with Jeremy Renner, Louis C.K. and Alessandro Nivola who just joined the cast.
The film is based on the true story of a notorious financial con artist (Bale) and his mistress/partner in crime (Adams), who were forced to work with an out of control federal agent (Cooper) to turn the tables on other con artists, mobsters, and politicians. At the epicenter of the entire tale, is the passionate and volatile leader of the New Jersey state assembly (Renner) who is also the local hero and mayor of impoverished Camden. Nivola will play Reggio, the federal prosecutor who tried the case in court.
Eric Singer penned the screenplay, which was previously referred to as American Bullshit.
You can check out those early Best Picture predictions here and I’ll have plenty more early predictions in the coming days.
