A New Thanksgiving Look at Baz Luhrmann’s ‘The Great Gatsby’

Warner Bros. released the above new picture from Baz Luhrmann‘s upcoming 3-D drama The Great Gatsby starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton and Tobey Maguire.

Whether you believe Warner moved the film from its planned Christmas Day 2012 release date to its new May 10, 2013 release date for reasons of quality or due to the overstuffed holiday 2012 release schedule is up to you.

There were rumors Luhrmann was denied more money for the production shortly after the release date move as Warner Bros. was declining to fund the film above the $127 million already invested. Luhrmann was then said to be raising the additional funds himself for another round of reshoots and some effects fine-tuning.

For me, while Luhrmann has only really impressed me once with Moulin Rouge! and while I do find Strictly Ballroom respectable, I’m not a fan of Romeo + Juliet or Australia. Yet, I have high hopes for Gatsby. I don’t watch trailers, but I did see the first one for this film and I must say, the man has a visual eye that is unmatched. His unique take on movie making makes each of his films something to look forward to and when you look at a director’s entire career you won’t find any that are batting 1.000.

Here’s that trailer once again if you’d like a refresher.
