A Few Words On ‘Rust and Bone’

Tomorrow, November 23, Jacques Audiard’s Rust and Bone arrives in New York theaters and thanks to Jordan Raup at The Film Stage I was alerted to the above advertisement running on the frontpage of the “New York Times” Arts section and for someone like me, getting quoted on a movie is something that happens very infrequently.

I can’t honestly remember how many times it has happened before, though I do know I was quoted on the first Paranormal Activity film and I think a couple times after that, but I don’t remember when.

That said, I have to say I’m proud to see the words from my Cannes review for Audiard’s new film starring Marion Cotillard and Matthias Schoenaerts used to promote the film. It’s one of the best of the year and I actually just received an awards screener yesterday and will definitely be watching it again as I compile my top ten of the year.

For those unfamiliar with Audiard, but notice at the top of the ad where it says “From the Award Winning director of A Prophet“, that film was my #1 film of 2010 and my introduction to Audiard, who also directed the 2005 drama The Beat That My Heart Skipped, which I also recommend, though not as highly as the other two.

You can read my full review of A Prophet click here).

You can also read my full review of Rust and Bone here, but I will be reprinting it tomorrow for the film’s New York release. Here’s the trailer.
