‘Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 2’ Opens with $30.4 Million from Midnight Screenings

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 is out of the gates and off an running as the final chapter in the “saga” brought in an estimated $30.4 million from late Thursday and Friday midnight screenings, narrowly topping The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, which brought in $30.25 million from midnights last year. Part 1 went on to bring in $138.1 million domestically in its opening weekend and finished with $705.1 million worldwide.

Around $30 million seems to be the ceiling for this franchise when it comes to opening midnighters as Eclipse brought in $30 million as well and the $700 million range seems to be the worldwide capper with Eclipse finishing just shy with $698.5 million and The Twilight Saga: New Moon still the highest grossing of the franchise to date with $709.8 million. New Moon also holds the opening weekend record for the franchise at $142.8 million, can this final installment top that? It’s opening in 46 more theaters and franchise finales are always big business.

If you haven’t done so yet, you can read my review of the film here.
