Three Clips from ‘Lincoln’ Highlighting Sally Field, Gordon-Levitt and Day-Lewis

Dreamworks has released three clips from Steven Spielberg‘s Lincoln and I’ve included all three below. I really don’t think this is a film that can be spoiled by watching clips, though I will say the clip featuring Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln offering a very public smackdown of Thaddeus Stevens (Tommy Lee Jones) may take away from the impact of seeing it in context within the film, but if you’re interested in seeing what would be her Oscar clip should she be nominated then by all means give it a look.

The first clip below, however, isn’t much of a spoiler as it features Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Lincoln’s eldest son Robert, pleading with his father to enlist and the third clip below may also be considered a spoiler in terms of the weight of the moment. It’s a scene where Lincoln (Daniel Day-Lewis) recites Euclid to a couple of members of his staff. There are far more powerful moments in the film where screenwriter Tony Kushner doesn’t rely on the words of others, but if you’re looking to go in with as little information as possible than it’s probably best to avoid these clips altogether.

Lincoln hits limited theaters this Friday, November 9 and will expand next weekend nationwide.
