I guess the words/phrase “scandal”, “tabloid”, “child star” and “paparazzi” draw comparisons between Lindsay Lohan and Elizabeth Taylor as the below poster is attempting to suggest, but otherwise I think this trailer for Lifetime’s made-for-TV movie “Liz & Dick” proves that’s where the comparisons end. Sure, you can put a wig and some makeup on someone and say, “Hey, don’t they sort of look like the person they’re attempting to be?” but that’s essentially to call this new “movie” a Halloween contest. Otherwise, Lohan is far from exhibiting anything Taylor brought to the screen.
Lohan is quoted saying, “I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor. She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role.” Ugh, it pains me to see how low we will stoop for ratings and go so far as to accept such meaningless words from an actress come to be known for partying, rehab and passing out outside clubs.
“Liz & Dick”, coming this November, centers on the romance Taylor had with actor Richard Burton (Grant Bowler). Instead of watching the movie, however, just read David Kamp’s 1998 Vanity Fair piece “When Liz Met Dick“. It’s a great read and will save you from having to endure what looks like a mess of a “movie”.
