Official Poster for ‘Killing Them Softly’ Looks… Cheap

This almost looks like a joke. Below is the official theatrical poster for Killing Them Softly and you’d think they handed it over to a fourth grader to test their Photoshop skills. “Okay, now cut out the background from the image leaving only Brad Pitt. Good. Now change the background to all black and type in ‘Brad Pitt‘ and ‘Killing Them Softly…. Good now– Oops, you did it in all lowercase… Well that’s okay, it will be your style.”

This looks nothing like any of the book covers for George V. Higgins’ novel from which it is based so I don’t get it. When you compare it to the Cannes Film Festival poster (see that here) it’s a slap in the face. I don’t even see this as a good attempt at an old school poster. Oh well, at least the movie is great.

Set in New Orleans, Killing Them Softly follows professional enforcer, Jackie Cogan (Pitt), who investigates a heist that occurs during a high stakes, mob-protected, poker game. The film also features Scoot McNairy (Monsters), Ben Mendelsohn (Animal Kingdom), Ray Liotta, Richard Jenkins (The Visitor), with James Gandolfini, Vincent Curatola, Max Casella, Sam Shepard and Bella Heathcote among others.

Weinstein will release the film on October 19 and you can read my “A” review from Cannes right here. As for the poster, you can check out that mess directly below. [via HP]
