Weekend Box-Office: ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Pulls in $160.8 Million, Third Best Opening Ever

There’s no easy way to go into an article focusing on movie ticket sales considering the events that took place this weekend accompanied by this morning’s first look at 24-year-old James E. Holmes, his hair dyed orange and a dazed look on his face, as he made his first court appearance.

Warner Bros. held off reporting box-office estimates in light of the tragic events that befell the midnight release of The Dark Knight Rises this weekend and as a result this is one of those rare occurrences where I’ll be reporting actual box-office numbers instead of estimates.

Laremy predicted the #1 movie correctly 6 Weeks In A Row

The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises is now holds the record for the the third all-time highest opening weekend ever. At $160.8 million it’s the highest opening for a 2-D exclusive release, opening in 4,404 theaters and pulling in $36,532 per.

The daily figures had the film opening at $75.7 million on Friday, $44.9 million on Saturday and $40.2 million on Sunday.

Internationally the film pulled in an estimated $88 million for a total of $248.8 million opening. The budget is said to be somewhere around $250 million and with the wealth of “Here are the Things I Didn’t Like About The Dark Knight Rises” articles popping up today, I’m not sure what kind of legs the pic will have.

Laremy went high with his prediction, coming in at $194 million and several commenters on Thursday gambled and predicted it would break the $207.4 million record set by The Avengers. Among those reader predictions, Steve J came closest with his $160 million prediction.
